Dear Parents/Guardians,

Here is an overview of what the children learned today: Jesus and the disciples tried to go away to a remote location to rest a while by climbing into a boat. But the crowd saw them leaving and ran ahead to meet Jesus. Jesus saw the large crowd of people and had compassion on them. He saw their suffering and acted. The Bible records that the people were like sheep without a shepherd. So, Jesus began to teach the people to fill their spiritual needs. Late in the day, the disciples came to Jesus and advised that He send the people to buy themselves food. When Jesus prompted the disciples to feed the people, they responded with their eyes on their earthly limitations. Read Mark 6:41-42. What a great day!! Thank you

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Jesus and His disciples had been traveling in Galilee, teaching and healing people. One evening Jesus told His disciples that they should cross to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. The men climbed into a boat and sailed into the sea. Suddenly, a windstorm formed. Windstorms were common on the Sea of Galilee due to its location at the base of Mount Hermon. Yet this windstorm terrified the disciples, who had been fishermen on this same sea and no

doubt experienced its storms. Read Mark 4:39-41. Recall how the disciples were afraid and cried out for Jesus’ help. Allow family members to talk about things that they are afraid of. Pray together, asking God for help trusting in Him even when we are afraid. Then discuss the questions on the back of this week’s Family Card. Dear Parents/Guardians,

Jesus told over 30 parables throughout His earthly ministry to help His audience understand truths about God and His kingdom. The parable of the sower is one of the more well-known parables. While sowing and reaping seed might be an unusual image for some today, in the agrarian culture of Bible times Israel, it was a familiar image. The disciples understood the importance of seed producing a good crop. Read Jesus’ explanation of the parable in Mark 4:14-20. Then discuss the questions on the back of this week’s Family Card.
